When come to selling your home, your home conditions is important. You want your house to look its very best to impress potential buyer. When buyer walks into your home, it should feel welcoming. It should look and smell clean and inviting. That’s why first impression is very important. You only get one chance to make a first impression.

Here is a quick checklist to help you getting your home in top selling conditions when getting your house ready to sell.

Exterior Curb Appeal

Drive up to your home and look at it from afar. Look at it through the eyes of buyers

  • Remove stain on drive way
  • Sweep the drive way and walk way
  • Clean or paint the front door
  • Repair/replace torn screen
  • Wash the windows
  • Repair/replace doorbell, exterior light fixtures, if necessary
  • Replace doormat that are worn and torn
  • Remove cobwebs and nests
  • Remove mildew, moss and stains from the side of your house
  • Go around and touch up the exterior of your house with putty and paint
  • Make sure pool and spa sparkle
  • Mow the lawn
  • Trim the trees and shrubs
  • Edge the walkways
  • Wash your garbage can and put it in the place where it’s not the first thing buyer will see

Overall Interior

Keep it clean and as little things as possible

  • Walk through your home. Store, give away or donate anything you will not need until you had move
  • Add a fresh coat of paint in light, neutral colors, if necessary
  • Fix loose door knobs, cracked molding and leaky faucets
  • Replace worn or broken door knobs, cabinet fixtures, light fixtures, light switches, outlet plates, faucets, vent covers
  • Remove cob webs
  • Clean the vents
  • Clean the fireplace
  • Shampoo the carpet and clean the tile flooring
  • Vacuum or clean the window blinds, shades and drapes
  • Wash all the windows
  • Remove all valuables, such as jewelry, artwork, medications, cash and so on
  • Open all windows shades to create a spacious and bright look
  • Replace broken light bulbs
  • Replace air filter
  • Clean the ceiling fan
  • Put pet supplies in place where they are not the first thing potential buyer will see or smell

Living Room, Family Room

Make the room spacious and inviting for potential buyer

  • Remove personal item such as family photo, award, trophy etc
  • Repair or remove chipped furniture
  • Rearrange furniture to create a spacious look, if necessary
  • Replace worn rugs and decorative pillow
  • Remove magazines, games, toys
  • Make sure entertainment center is dust free
  • Vacuum upholstery, drapes, decorative pillow etc

Dining Room/Area

Clean and make it inviting for potential buyer envision entertaining there

  • Polish any visible silverware
  • Put a lovely centerpiece on the table
  • Set the table with at least table mat and plate

Bedrooms

Make the room spacious and relaxing

  • Rearrange furniture to create spacious look, if necessary
  • Remove games, toys, magazines, cosmetics, jewelry, especially on the nightstands
  • Make the bed
  • Clean and organize your closets. Add extra space by storing
  • Vacuum or clean the window blinds, shades and drapes
  • Make sure the door is locking properly

Bathrooms

Clean, clean and clean

  • Remove rust and mildew stains, especially standing shower door trim area
  • Wash or replace shower curtains
  • Clean standing shower door
  • Re-grount the shower surrounding area, if necessary
  • Replace worn shower mat and towels
  • Clean toilet bowl, make sure there is no stain

  • Clean the light fixture over the sink
